A Brooklyn elementary teacher was arrested after kicking a 12-year-old student in the chest and landing the boy in the hospital, police said Wednesday.
Roger Jassie, 57, was at School of the Future Junior High in East New York at about 4 p.m. Tuesday when he lost his temper with a boy who was trying to block another student from the classroom and booted him in the chest, authorities said.
The child started complaining of pain and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Jassie was arrested later that day and charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child, officials said.
According to the school’s website, Jassie is a seventh-grade math instructor. He’s only been a city teacher since September, sources said.
“The safety of our students is our top priority and this substitute teacher was immediately suspended without pay when we were made aware of this concerning allegation,” a Department of Education spokesperson said in a statement.
