Cops arrested a Harlem man for allegedly gunning down his 28-year-old neighbor in the stairwell of their Harlem apartment building, police said Thursday.
Raynard Stapleton, 41, was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon for the March 5 death of Brandon Vails, according to police.
Vails had walked out of his apartment on West 127th Street near Malcolm X Boulevard at around 6:40 p.m. when he was shot in the chest, cops said. He was taken to Harlem Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It was unclear what was the motive for the shooting.
Stapleton had been arrested nine times for burglary and criminal contempt of court, and his oldest arrest was in 1998 for shooting two people in the hip and leg, police said.
