Ewan McGregor was researching a chic role backstage at Naeem Khan.
“I wanted to observe Naeem,” the Scottish actor told The Post after the glittery runway show during New York Fashion Week. “I’m playing the fashion designer Halston in a series, and Naeem used to work with him,” said McGregor. He was referring to the upcoming “Simply Halston,” which he is also executive producing. It is not yet attached to a network.
“I’ve been speaking to a lot of Halston’s old friends,” said McGregor. “It’s been really, really good fun.”
The “Trainspotting” star is practicing cutting and draping. “I’ve been doing a lot of all of that kind of thing. I just have to look like I know what I’m doing.”
Born Roy Halston Frowick, the designer built a fashion empire in the 1970s on the strength of his exquisitely minimalist ready-to-wear. He worked with house models like Pat Cleveland and Beverly Johnson, and famously partied at Studio 54 with Liza Minnelli and Bianca Jagger. He died in 1990 from AIDS-related complications, at the age of 57.
“Naeem has been really helpful because he was a personal friend of his,” said McGregor. “They worked together for many years.”
