Love’s getting a whole new package!
Health Department officials rolled out the latest design for protection in the Big Apple on Valentine’s Day, featuring the ‘NYC LEGEND XL’ label screaming across the golden-colored condom wrapper that features the city’s street grid in the background.
“City residents helped us select the design, so this is a condom by New Yorkers for New Yorkers,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot. “While the condom is new, the message stays the same — have fun but remember to use the tools that help you lead a healthier, safer sex life.”
The City That Never Sleeps picked the new sheath for protection between the sheets from four finalists in an online competition.
Officials hooked up with condom distributors across the city on Friday — which is also National Condom Awareness Day — to hand out the newly designed condoms, T-shirts and other sex-related swag at events in Manhattan, the Bronx and LaGuardia Community College in Queens.
“No glove, no love!” Carine Jocelyn, CEO of Diaspora Community Services, one of the featured condom distribution contractors, said in a statement. “Protect yourself with the NYC Legend XL.”
There’s also a launch shebang in ‘Willy’-burg set for Friday night, where guests will score shag swag, health officials said.
New York first laid eyes on the NYC Condom on Valentine’s Day in 2007 and the program’s grown since.
Officials distributed more than 31 million condoms and other safer-sex products last year.
