NASCAR became the latest league to crack on Friday morning as coronavirus fears spread, announcing it was suspending the season two days ahead of a scheduled race in Atlanta.
The plan was to run races without fans, but for now the next two races have been delayed.
“NASCAR has decided to postpone the race events at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend and Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend,” it said in a statement. “We believe this decision is in the best interest of the safety and well-being of our fans, competitors, officials and everyone associated with our sport. We will continue to monitor this dynamic situation as we assess future race events.”
NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, college sports, the ATP and WTA tennis tours and the PGA Tour are all canceled or on hiatus.
At this point, it appears only the UFC still plans on going ahead with a sporting event this weekend.
