Tom Holland and Chris Pratt are casting a spell on viewers in the trailer for Pixar’s “Onward.”
The animated fantasy reunites the “Avengers: Endgame” stars as Ian and Barley, two modern-day elf brothers whose dead father was a closet wizard. They use his magical staff to cast a spell and resurrect him, but wind up summoning only his lower torso. (Don’t worry — he’s wearing pants. It’s from Disney, after all.)
To make matters worse, they only have one day to make him whole again before the spell expires. So they strap his disembodied legs to a stuffed sweatshirt with a makeshift head and sunglasses and set out to find his missing torso — all while making sure no one discovers that their father’s only half the man he used to be.
Along the way, the duo encounters murderous unicorns, pernicious pixies, a fire-breathing manticore — played by Octavia Spencer — and more spells that may not work as planned.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and John Ratzenberger have supporting roles in the fantasy-adventure.
Onward hits theaters on March 6, 2020, just ahead of Pixar’s other metaphysical animated comedy, “Soul,” which stars Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Daveed Diggs, Questlove and Phylicia Rashad and comes out June 19.
