A pregnant Georgia woman has been arrested after carjacking a CBS news van — with a reporter still inside, cops said.
WGCL-TV reporter Iyani Hughes — who is also pregnant — was editing video inside the van after finishing a live report around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday when a “belligerent” woman hijacked the vehicle and sped off, the station reported.
The news crew was covering a story near Atlantic Station when the carjacker crashed a Toyota Highlander into a security gate nearby. In an attempt to flee the scene, she jumped into the driver’s seat of the news van and took off, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Hughes was knocked to the van’s floor and started screaming for the woman to stop. When she didn’t, Hughes managed to get into the passenger seat and buckle her seatbelt, WGCL-TV reported.
Officers investigating the Toyota Highlander crash heard Hughes’ screams and tried to stop the van.
Seniqua Lunsford, 38, was arrested and charged with kidnapping after she then crashed the news van into another car in a nearby traffic circle, cops said.
Hughes was uninjured in the crash, but Lunsford suffered an injury to her arm, cops said.
