Cops serving a search warrant on a man in Queens found a Soviet-style assault rifle in his bedroom, police said Tuesday.
Cops entered Joshua Gonzalez’s Far Rockaway apartment on Saturday at 1 a.m. where the found the AK-47–style semi-automatic weapon in a suitcase on the floor of a bedroom, according to police and court documents.
Also in the suitcase were a high-capacity detachable magazine, a flash suppressor and more than 100 rounds of rifle, pistol and shotgun ammunition, authorities said.
“While most people were out starting their holiday shopping, officers from the @NYPD101Pct in Queens were getting this AK47 off our city streets” the NYPD tweeted Tuesday, along with a picture of the confiscated rifle and ammunition.
Apart from the weapons, cops found a scale covered on cocaine residue in a second bedroom, according to court documents.
Gonzalez, who has five prior arrests, all of which are sealed, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of drug paraphernalia, police said.
The 30-year-old’s bail was set at $100,000, and he is set to appear in court on Dec. 5.
