Well that clears that up — a burning shopping cart on a Manhattan subway platform exploded because it was full of aerosol cans, transit officials “explained” on Friday.

Footage of the rather spectacular spectacle at the 103rd Street station on the Upper West Side was tweeted out on Wednesday, and by Friday, officials confirmed that the explosion was caused by igniting aerosol cans.

The station conflagration was extinguished by the FDNY, subway officials noted.
